Happy World Book Day!

Thursday, March 5th, 2020

It’s that time of year again….World Book Day!

Today I’m going to take a trip down memory lane and talk about Beanie Babies that remind me of certain books from my childhood.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This was one of my very first books ever, and I LOVED it!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is about a tiny caterpillar who eats and eats and grows and grows until he becomes a beautiful butterfly!

Even though he doesn’t really look like the caterpillar from the book, for some reason Inch the Inchworm has always reminded me of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Inch was first released with felt antennae, then later with yarn antennae. The felt antennae version is a little rarer.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr is another book from my childhood. It is about a tiger who turns up to a little girl’s house and drinks all the tea, eats all the food before drinking everything in the house.

India reminds me a little bit of the tiger in the book. She was a cute little tiger released in June 2000. However, I’m sure your food and tea are safe with her around…

Little Red Riding Hood

Surely, everybody’s heard of Little Red Riding Hood?!

It was one of those classic tales that made children terrified of wolves. The original story is a European folk tale, although one of the most popular adaptations, and the one I remember, is by the Brothers Grimm.

Luckily Howl won’t dress up pretending to be your Grandma, but he does remind me a little of the Big Bad Wolf from the story. Don’t worry, he won’t eat you though.

Treasure Island

Another classic tale.

Treasure Island was a tale of pirates and buried treasure by Robert Louis Stevenson, and where the character, “Long John” Silver comes from.

The pirate bear, Roger (think Jolly Roger) would be a perfect character in this novel, with his eyepatch and skull and crossbones bandana.

Roger was a Vedes exclusive Beanie Baby, only found in Germany.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

I LOVED Peter Rabbit as a child!

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter is about Peter Rabbit, a mischievous rabbit who goes into Mr McGregor’s garden against his Mother’s wishes to eat his vegetables, only to end up being chased out by Mr McGregor and being sent to bed without any food when he gets home.

Ty actually did release a Peter Rabbit Beanie Baby. He was available as a retail version and a UK exclusive version that was only available at The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and in Harrods.

Are you celebrating World Book Day? What are your favourite books?

Upcoming Beanie Baby – Frederick

Monday, March 2nd, 2020

On Friday, I posted an article about the latest Beanie Baby bear I had spotted, called Kodi. He is a black bear expected to be released in Spring this year. Well, I have just found out about another Beanie Baby to join Kodi this Spring.

Frederick the fox is another new face due to make an appearance around a similar time to Kodi.

So far, I’ve been unable to find out any details about his poem or Birthday.

I’m sure this little guy will be just as adorable in reality. I can’t wait for all these new Beanie Babies and Boos to appear!

What do you think of Frederick?

Upcoming Beanie Baby Alert – Kodi the Bear!

Friday, February 28th, 2020

Well there have been a few new exciting releases recently with the latest Beanie Boos like Spirit the German Shepherd Dog and Phoenix the Fennec Fox. Also, five new European moose Beanie Boos were spotted on the Ty Calendar called Harald, Väinö, Rasmus, Birger and Egert. There were also three rabbit Beanie Babies called Ryley, Sherbet and Buster. These are just a handful of the latest releases/upcoming releases!

Now I’ve heard about another new Beanie Baby who is just too cute for words!

Meet Kodi.

Kodi is a gorgeous black bear with highlights of dark brown. His glittery gold eyes pop out from the black of his fur and he has a lighter brown muzzle, light brown feet and light brown inner ears.

So far I don’t have any information on his poem or Birthday but I will update that as soon as I find out.

Isn’t this little black bear adorable?!

Beanie Baby Birthday – Mukluk the Husky!

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

Today is the 26th February, which means only one thing….

It’s Mukluk’s Birthday!

Mukluk is a mottled grey husky with a white face, belly and legs. His Birthday is on 26th February 2003 and his poem reads:

Just say “mush” and watch me run
I love the snow, it’s so much fun
And when the day is finally through
I’d love to cuddle up with you!

There are two versions of Mukluk: one version with white eyes and another with one blue eye, one green eye. Both versions have the same style number of 40031.

Aren’t they both so cute?!

The name “Mukluk” comes from the Arctic aboriginal word for any kind of soft boot used for cold weather. Traditionally, these were made from reindeer or seal skin, but now they are either made from traditional or modern materials.

Happy Birthday Mukluk! Do you have any of these two Beanie Babies?

It’s Pancake Day!

Tuesday, February 25th, 2020

Today at Beaniepedia HQ is a very special day that is close to my heart…

Of course, I mean Pancake Day!

Today, Scorch has decided to “help” me make some pancakes. Thanks Scorch!

In the UK, we make thin, crêpe-like pancakes that can either have a savoury or sweet filling, but usually sweet. Typical fillings include lemon juice and sugar, nutella, banana, berries or golden syrup. I’m getting hungry just typing this!

Personally, my favourite fillings are lemon juice and sugar or golden syrup! But today, I’m undecided on which filling to have.

Do you celebrate Pancake Day? If so what are your favourite fillings/toppings?

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Saturday, February 15th, 2020

Today at Beaniepedia HQ, we’re experiencing some pretty miserable wet and windy weather with Storm Dennis, so I thought I’d introduce you all to someone well equipped for the rain!

This cute little bear is called Gordon. He was part of the original Attic Treasures range (before the re-introduction of the line) and released in January 1999.

I think his little bright yellow rain jacket and hat are just adorable!

The Attic Treasures didn’t really have a poem inside their swing tag, but rather a short phrase. Gordon’s was:

“Into Each Life a Little
Rain Must Fall !”

So if you have some rainy weather wherever you are, or you’re just having a bad day in general, I hope this little bear cheers you up a little bit.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

Top 5 Valentine’s Day Beanie Babies

Sunday, February 9th, 2020

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I have decided to compile a list of my top five personal favourite Valentine’s Day Beanie Babies!

1. Valentino

Valentino was one of the first Beanie Baby bears I got (along with Halo and Fuzz) so has a sentimental value to me.

His poem reads as follows:

His heart is red and full of love
He cares for you so give him a hug
Keep him close when feeling blue
Feel the love he has for you!

Although I love Valentino, there is so much false information out there about him, mainly regarding his rarity and value.

To clear things up a bit, Valentino is only worth any more than a few dollars when he has a 2nd or 3rd generation swing tag, the 2nd generation being worth several hundreds of dollars if it is in absolutely mint condition.

There was a rumour that if Valentino has a brown nose then he is worth more. The truth is that all Valentino bears had a brown nose. There was no other colour variation available.

Finally, errors in the tag add absolutely nothing to his value. Tag errors were produced in the millions and are very common among most Beanie Babies.

Having said that, I love Valentino and think he’s a lovely bear.

2. Lovely

Lovely is an adorable little white dog covered in a red heart pattern. She reminds me a bit of a dalmatian dog as the heart pattern looks a bit like red spots and I just love the bright red ribbon she has tied around her neck.

Her poem reads:

A wagging dog so cute and sweet
Is bringing you a special treat
Many warm hugs meant just for you
A more lovely pup you never knew!

So cute!

3. Garfield – Happy Valentine’s Day

I’m sure you have all heard of Garfield the cat, the popular comic series created by Jim Davis. Since he has appeared in his own TV series and even feature length movies.

The cynical, lasagne-loving feline has even been made into a few licensed Beanie Babies, one of which is the “Happy Valentine’s Day” version, pictured above.

His poem reads:

Love is splitting the
last plate of
pasta!

4. Romance

Romance is one of the newer “pot belly” design teddy bears, in fact she was the first to feature this new look.

She is a pale pink with highlights of hot pink mixed in and has a cute little heart-shaped nose.

Her poem reads:

Valentine’s Day is the perfect chance
To give some love and show romance
This little bear can hardly wait
She wants to help you celebrate!

And finally…

5. Smoothie

Smoothie was a cute white giraffe covered in bright red hearts. Her gorgeous fluffy red mane runs down her long neck and she has a tuft of bright red fur on the end of her tail.

Smoothie’s poem reads:

I will search high in the trees
For someone that I can squeeze
My Valentine will meet me there
And we will make the perfect pair!

What did you think of this list? What are your favourite Valentine’s Day Beanie Babies.

One for the Cat Lovers…

Wednesday, January 29th, 2020

For all the cat lovers following us, keep your eyes peeled for these two new cat Beanie Boos and one Flippables! They are due to be released in the coming weeks, with some sources speculating February or March.

First up is Asher. Asher looks to be a breed of long-haired cat with a grey head and white body. She is part of the “unicorn animal” range that Ty have been producing for some time now. She features a sparkly pink unicorn horn on top of her head.

Next we have Reagan. Reagan is a pink cat with curly fur. She appears to be a Valentine’s Day Beanie Boo, and the fact she could be released at any moment it would make perfect sense. Reagan’s fur looks to be the same colour and texture as the flamingo Beanie Boo, Dainty.

And finally, the last cat due to appear on the shelves is the new Flippables, Confetti! Confetti, as her name suggests, is covered in multicoloured reversible sequins that resemble confetti. Her colours are gorgeous!

As mentioned above, look for these new Beanie Boos to start appearing either next month or in March. Watch out for further updates on these and other Ty products that are coming soon!

Which of these cats are you most looking forward to seeing?

Beanie Boo Review – Zappy the Platypus

Monday, January 27th, 2020

Yesterday, I went into town to do some shopping and came home with an unexpected bargain from Poundland! For those in the USA who follow my website, Poundland is a nationwide discount store in the UK that sells things from £1 up to about £5. They are literally in every town and city in the UK that you come across.

Anyway, I just happened to notice that they had a selection of Beanie Boos in store! The Beanie Boos in stock at the time were Icy, Asha, Orson, Aqua, Nori, Zappy and Cinnamon. They also had Aqua and Icy in the medium size and various Ty Gear. I decided to buy Zappy the Platypus as I didn’t have him in my collection yet.

Zappy was released in 2019 in both the small and medium sizes of Beanie Boo. He is a purple, pink, blue and white platypus with a fluffy body except for his lavender coloured belly, which is made from the smoother Ty Silk material. His eyes (shown below) are glittery purple and slightly smaller than that of most Beanie Boos. His flippers and bill are made from sparkly turquoise fabric, covered in glitter.

He has a 4th generation Beanie Boo swing tag with the red background and yellow “Beanie Boos” logo and “Ty” written in white. Earlier Beanie Boos had a purple swing tag with a yellow “Ty” logo and “Beanie Boos” written in a pale blue font.

Written inside right of his swing tag is his name, Birthday, which is on 15th September, and a poem. The poem reads as follows:

I’m a platypus who likes to swim
So I’ll never, never need a gym!

The Zappy I bought has the version of the two-tag C1 tush tag that was distributed in the UK (with the Portsmouth address stuck over the front of the USA Oakbrook, IL address).

My overall impression of Zappy is that I just adore the colour of his fur! I think the combination of purples, blues and pinks really compliment each other well (I may be a bit biased as I just LOVE purple!). I think he makes a brilliant addition to the Beanie Boos range (and to my personal collection).

For the information of those in the UK, the price on the shelf for Zappy was £3, which I thought was a pretty good deal. However, when I went to the checkout, he was actually priced at £2! Even better!

What do you think of Zappy?
