Beanie Baby Review – Mystery the Loch Ness Monster

Tuesday, June 9th, 2020

I’ve lost count how many weeks we’ve been in lockdown now. The only problem with being at home is that I keep coming across new additions to my collection!

One of my latest additions that has just arrived is a UK exclusive Beanie Baby called Mystery.

Mystery Beanie Baby

Mystery is a turquoise Loch Ness Monster that was exclusive to the UK. She has little black button eyes and a white belly. On her side is the Scottish flag, embroidered in blue with a white cross.

Mystery Beanie Baby tush tag

Mystery was only ever available with a UK 13th generation hang tag. These were slightly different than a 13th generation USA tag in that they only say “ORIGINAL BEANIES” instead of “ORIGINAL BEANIE BABIES”. However, both tags featured the holographic star to the left of the lettering.

Inside Mystery’s hang tag, her Birthday is on 22nd June 2004 and her poem reads as follows:

My size and shape a secret so old
Generations of tales greatly told
Any ripples or shadows you see
Just think aloud that it could be me!

I’ve been wanting this Beanie Baby for a little while now, so I’m glad to finally have her in my collection!

Here’s she is pictured from another angle. Isn’t she adorable?!

There are two other Loch Ness Monster Beanie Babies similar in appearance to Mystery. There are two versions of NESS-e (pictured below right), a retail version and an Inverness Centre exclusive version (there were also key clips of both versions of NESS-e) and Enigma (below left), another Inverness Centre exclusive.

The list of Teeny Tys is now complete!

Friday, June 5th, 2020

Yay! It’s finally Friday!

Just to let you all know, I’ve now finished putting up all the Teeny Tys on the website!

Now they are available to add to your collection and browse at your leisure. You can also filter them by animal type, year of release and colour, as well as sort them alphabetically.

I am currently missing a picture for the Hungarian Chaser (Chaser XXI). If anyone has a picture they would be willing to give me permission to upload to the database, or any other information on him, I would be really, really grateful!

If you find I’m missing any out from the list, please let me know and I’ll add it in for you.

Enjoy your weekend!

Upcoming Beanie Boo?

Friday, May 29th, 2020

Have you spotted this little fox?

This adorable fox is called Faye. Although I saw Faye a while back on the Ty Calendar, I couldn’t find out any details on her before, other than a fuzzy, small image.

Ty have now updated her image on the Calendar and now include her poem, which reads as follows:

Being a sly fox is my claim to fame
Make a silly face, and I’ll do the same!

Faye will probably make an appearance later this year (obviously, the current situation could delay things, so I’m not sure exactly when that could be).

I am pretty sure, based on her look, that she will be released to the Beanie Boo collection, however, this is still unclear at the moment.

Faye is not to be confused with another fox released in the Beanie Babies range this year, called Fay (without the “e”).

Keep a look out for Faye later this year!

New Beanie Baby – Barker

Tuesday, March 24th, 2020

With everything that’s going on at the moment, it’s nice to hear the news that there is a brand new Beanie Baby available!

His name is Barker and here is the little guy pictured below. Isn’t he adorable?!

Barker is a brand new dog in the Beanie Babies line. He is similar in appearance to the Beanie Boos (in fact, I thought he was one at first!) with his large, glittery gold eyes.

Barker appears to be a spaniel-type dog, possible a cocker spaniel, and has lovely floppy ears that are slightly furrier than the rest of him.

Barker’s Birthday is on 24th January and his poem reads:

It’s a known fact that dogs make good best friends.
There is no doubt we’re pals to the end!

Do you have Barker in your collection yet?

Keep safe everyone!

Monday, March 23rd, 2020

Hi everyone!

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet lately. It’s all gone a bit crazy since my last post.

As you have almost certainly heard, we are currently in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. I’m still here and keeping safe, and I hope everyone is also feeling well and following the guidelines set out by their country. We all need to do our bit at the moment to help everyone out during this time.

I also hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day in the UK, despite perhaps not being able to celebrate in quite the same way as usual.

Now more than ever, we need to discover the importance of keeping ourselves occupied in the comfort of our own homes. I know many parents will be looking for ideas to keep their children busy and still learning now that the schools are shut in the UK.

Arts and crafts are great for keeping little minds occupied. One idea could be to draw their favourite Beanie Boo or Beanie Baby in different scenarios (perhaps a springtime picture to brighten things up), or make a comic strip with a short story. Or creating clothes and accessories for their Beanie Boo using craft supplies or things around the home. Pinterest is great for ideas if you’re stuck!

Jigsaw puzzles or board games are good for passing time and baking is great fun and brilliant for learning a new skill. There’s even a treat at the end of it!

Scorch (pictured above) has got his day sorted doing crossword puzzles with a cup of tea.

How are you keeping yourself busy? And most importantly, keep yourself and others safe!

For more information on the coronavirus pandemic, visit the CDC website for the current advice and guidelines.

Happy Birthday Swirly!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

Today is 10th March, which just happens to be Swirly’s Birthday!

This adorable little snail was released back in 1999 and has recently received a bit of attention on TikTok causing it’s value to rise a little.

Swirly’s poem is as follows:

Carefully traveling, leaving a trail
I’m not very fast, for I am a snail
Although I go my own plodding pace
Slow and steady, wins the race!

Isn’t she just so cute! Happy Birthday little snail!

Have you recently come across Swirly on TikTok or do you have her in your collection?

Happy World Book Day!

Thursday, March 5th, 2020

It’s that time of year again….World Book Day!

Today I’m going to take a trip down memory lane and talk about Beanie Babies that remind me of certain books from my childhood.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This was one of my very first books ever, and I LOVED it!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is about a tiny caterpillar who eats and eats and grows and grows until he becomes a beautiful butterfly!

Even though he doesn’t really look like the caterpillar from the book, for some reason Inch the Inchworm has always reminded me of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Inch was first released with felt antennae, then later with yarn antennae. The felt antennae version is a little rarer.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr is another book from my childhood. It is about a tiger who turns up to a little girl’s house and drinks all the tea, eats all the food before drinking everything in the house.

India reminds me a little bit of the tiger in the book. She was a cute little tiger released in June 2000. However, I’m sure your food and tea are safe with her around…

Little Red Riding Hood

Surely, everybody’s heard of Little Red Riding Hood?!

It was one of those classic tales that made children terrified of wolves. The original story is a European folk tale, although one of the most popular adaptations, and the one I remember, is by the Brothers Grimm.

Luckily Howl won’t dress up pretending to be your Grandma, but he does remind me a little of the Big Bad Wolf from the story. Don’t worry, he won’t eat you though.

Treasure Island

Another classic tale.

Treasure Island was a tale of pirates and buried treasure by Robert Louis Stevenson, and where the character, “Long John” Silver comes from.

The pirate bear, Roger (think Jolly Roger) would be a perfect character in this novel, with his eyepatch and skull and crossbones bandana.

Roger was a Vedes exclusive Beanie Baby, only found in Germany.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

I LOVED Peter Rabbit as a child!

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter is about Peter Rabbit, a mischievous rabbit who goes into Mr McGregor’s garden against his Mother’s wishes to eat his vegetables, only to end up being chased out by Mr McGregor and being sent to bed without any food when he gets home.

Ty actually did release a Peter Rabbit Beanie Baby. He was available as a retail version and a UK exclusive version that was only available at The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and in Harrods.

Are you celebrating World Book Day? What are your favourite books?

Upcoming Beanie Baby – Frederick

Monday, March 2nd, 2020

On Friday, I posted an article about the latest Beanie Baby bear I had spotted, called Kodi. He is a black bear expected to be released in Spring this year. Well, I have just found out about another Beanie Baby to join Kodi this Spring.

Frederick the fox is another new face due to make an appearance around a similar time to Kodi.

So far, I’ve been unable to find out any details about his poem or Birthday.

I’m sure this little guy will be just as adorable in reality. I can’t wait for all these new Beanie Babies and Boos to appear!

What do you think of Frederick?

Upcoming Beanie Baby Alert – Kodi the Bear!

Friday, February 28th, 2020

Well there have been a few new exciting releases recently with the latest Beanie Boos like Spirit the German Shepherd Dog and Phoenix the Fennec Fox. Also, five new European moose Beanie Boos were spotted on the Ty Calendar called Harald, Väinö, Rasmus, Birger and Egert. There were also three rabbit Beanie Babies called Ryley, Sherbet and Buster. These are just a handful of the latest releases/upcoming releases!

Now I’ve heard about another new Beanie Baby who is just too cute for words!

Meet Kodi.

Kodi is a gorgeous black bear with highlights of dark brown. His glittery gold eyes pop out from the black of his fur and he has a lighter brown muzzle, light brown feet and light brown inner ears.

So far I don’t have any information on his poem or Birthday but I will update that as soon as I find out.

Isn’t this little black bear adorable?!

Beanie Baby Birthday – Mukluk the Husky!

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

Today is the 26th February, which means only one thing….

It’s Mukluk’s Birthday!

Mukluk is a mottled grey husky with a white face, belly and legs. His Birthday is on 26th February 2003 and his poem reads:

Just say “mush” and watch me run
I love the snow, it’s so much fun
And when the day is finally through
I’d love to cuddle up with you!

There are two versions of Mukluk: one version with white eyes and another with one blue eye, one green eye. Both versions have the same style number of 40031.

Aren’t they both so cute?!

The name “Mukluk” comes from the Arctic aboriginal word for any kind of soft boot used for cold weather. Traditionally, these were made from reindeer or seal skin, but now they are either made from traditional or modern materials.

Happy Birthday Mukluk! Do you have any of these two Beanie Babies?
